ASCAP Makes Outlandish Copyright Claims on Cell Phone Ringtones

ASCAP is claiming that carriers, who already pay royalties for the right to sell ring tones, should pay additional royalties to cover the “public performance” of their customers’ phones playing the ring tones in public. Next up, pursuing car companies for people playing their radios with the windows down?
